Below you will learn the basics of Botox to help you decide if and when Botox is right for you.

What is Botox?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved prescription product that temporarily improves the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and moderate to severe crow’s feet in adults.

Our facial muscles are constantly in motion throughout our lifetime, which results in noticeable changes to the appearance and elasticity of our facial features. The aging process causes the slowdown of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older, these areas of overuse become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. This is when Botox comes into play!

Why is Botox right for me?

As we age our appearance changes right before our eyes. We develop wrinkles from a combination of many factors including cellular changes, collagen depletion and damage caused by free radicals. The more we use our skin, the more drastic the changes are. For example, when you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract causing your skin to fold and ultimately cause wrinkles on your forehead. BOTOX® Cosmetic allows us to not only reduce the appearance of current lines, but also acts as a preventative measure to slow down the rate of wrinkle development.

How long does the process take?

One of the great things about Botox is you do not need a lot of time to have the procedure done. In fact some will incorporate the appointments in while running errands. On average it takes mere minutes to get the injections.

How often do I need a procedure?

Most patients will notice the return of wrinkles 3-6 months after being injected. The amount of injections and the frequency is dependent on the muscle mass and the depth of the wrinkle. Most people, regardless of age, will need Botox repeated every 4-5 months. In order to maintain results, you must continue treatment. Our trained professionals will assist you in setting you up with a treatment schedule that is right for you!

How does it work?

Your provider will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet or other areas of concern. This will temporarily relax the activity of those muscles and in turn reduce the appearance of those lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the release of a substance called acetycholine beneath the skins surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. You will be able to see results within 3-9 days.
