Bruise prevention

What We Can Do To Help Prevent Bruising

With cosmetic injections, bruising is always a risk. Especially with the hyaluronic acid products such as; Juvederm and Restylane. These products act like a sponge in the tissue. That means that when we puncture the skin with a needle, these products will pull the blood to them. And more often than we would like, that leads to bruising.

No injector can prevent bruising 100% of the time. But there are things you can do to help prevent bruising from occurring.

-Stop taking Advil, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Aspirin, St. John’s Wort, Gingko, Fish oil, and Vitamin E five days prior to your appointment. (Do NOT stop taking medications recommended by your physician)

-Stop alcohol consumption 5 days prior to treatment (yes, this includes wine!).

-Take Arnica Montana. We have both pill and gel form available.

-Take a Vitamin K supplement.

If you are really concerned with bruising (a special event or public speaking), let us know when you get to the office. We’ll provide ice to start cooling the area. This can help minimize bruising. Ice following treatment is helpful also.

If a bruise occurs, use cool packs on the area for 20 minutes every 2 hours the first two days. Then switch to warm packs (this will help to break up the bruise).

Know that we will always do our best for you!
